Week 9
Refining skin weight
Did some skin weight fixing for both Cody and Mrs. Wrinkles so that they can deform properly.
| Please use NgSkinTool, so much better than the default Maya one :)) |
Model update
The spray can and respirator model were free to download assets from Sketchfab, reference to the artist below. I wish I could do the modeling as well, but we're running on a tight schedule. |

Blocking pass
The quadruped animation was very interesting and I had a lot of fun doing the blocking. The whole concept of "Don't try and fix something the audience won't be able to see" was really inspiring. I managed to produce something I was satisfied with from Sunday to Monday. It's amazing how quickly progress can be made when you're in the zone and inspired by a clear vision.
| This has to be my favorite shot out of everything. Matching the rhythm of the floating tables and chairs with Mrs. Wrinkles jumping to reach the HIGH GROUND was super fun, I can work with this scene all day!!! |
Weekly Report
The "line of action" in animation is like a character's backbone—it guides animators in shaping movement, rhythm, and energy. Think of it as a virtual line running through the character's body, showing its primary direction of motion. This line helps animators create poses that are both visually striking and emotionally expressive, contributing to the storytelling.
A clear silhouette is crucial in animation; it lets the audience quickly grasp who the character is and what they're doing. By sticking to the line of action, animators ensure poses are dynamic and easily recognizable, making the animation more engaging.
Posing adds depth to characters, showing their emotions and intentions. Following the line of action helps in crafting strong, expressive poses that convey personality effectively.
Moreover, the line of action aids in maintaining a smooth rhythm in the animation. It helps in timing and spacing movements, ensuring they flow seamlessly from one pose to the next, making the animation feel more natural and immersive.
In summary, the line of action is a vital tool for animators, guiding them in shaping a character's movement and emotion, ultimately enhancing the storytelling experience.
